Olive Grove Depot is streets ahead as eco-friendly office shortlisted at MMC Awards

“Olive Grove Depot showcases the vast capabilities of modular construction, and how offsite methods can deliver buildings of exceptional quality and sustainability." - Chris Turner, MD

We’re thrilled to announce that Olive Grove Depot, an eco-friendly office delivered for our client Amey, has been shortlisted in two categories at the MMC Awards 2026.

Olive Grove Depot is the operational hub for Sheffield’s Streets Ahead programme – a 25-year contract being delivered by Amey, in partnership with Sheffield City Council, to upgrade the city’s highways and infrastructure.

We were appointed by Amey to design, manufacture and deliver an office with outstanding environmental credentials, to replace an existing 60-year-old depot.

Amey required the building to achieve BREEAM ‘Very Good’ status, maximising sustainability while also minimising operational disruption throughout delivery of the project.

Originally specified for traditional construction, Amey recognised the benefits of modular – faster delivery, sustainable, cost efficient and reduced site disruption - and switched to MMC.

Amey’s team have now moved into their new home and, following the completion and handover of a successful project, we’re delighted to share that Olive Grove Depot is a finalist at the MMC Awards 2026.

Olive Grove Depot has been shortlisted for Project of the Year (Commercial/Office) and Achieving Net Zero in a Project, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Our MD, Chris Turner, said: “Olive Grove Depot has been a fantastic project to work on. It showcases the vast capabilities of modular construction, and how offsite methods can deliver buildings of exceptional quality and sustainability.

“We took a fabric-first approach to the building, comprising of sustainably-sourced components and materials. It was clear from the outset that sustainability was integral to the project, and that Amey’s values and environmental focus mirror our own.

“We’ve built a strong, collaborative relationship with Amey and partners involved in delivering Olive Grove Depot. We hope Amey’s team enjoy their new home, and feel proud to work in a building with exceptional sustainability standards.”

Modular proved 25 per cent cheaper than traditional construction, due to reduced preliminary costs, a condensed on-site programme, greater quality control and enhanced efficiency.

We adopted a hybrid construction approach, with traditional foundations providing radon protection and offsite manufacturing above maximising the benefits of modular.

Olive Grove Depot achieved BREEAM “Very Good” status, with modular resulting in an 83 per cent cut in CO2 emissions and a projected 88 per cent reduction in energy use across the building’s lifespan.

Offsite manufacturing reduced CO2 from transport by 30 per cent and halved on-site energy use. Factory-controlled manufacturing minimised material waste and shortened the programme.

Heat pumps and ultra-efficient LED lighting significantly reduce operational carbon, with solar panels generating almost a third of the building’s lifetime energy.

Here’s what Amey had to say about our work …

“Integra’s approach to design and construction has been instrumental in achieving our goal of completing phase one of our depot redevelopment.

“From early discussions to visiting their offices and site visits to Sheffield, it was clear that their approach would be bold, creating a building that stands out from the crowd, with environmental features that go beyond the norm, and a working environment for our teams to be proud of.

“Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, enabling Sheffield to be the showcase of Amey’s commitment to sustainable working practices across the business and beyond.

We’re excited to celebrate Olive Grove Depot alongside our industry peers at the MMC Awards, held at Birmingham’s Grand Hotel on May 7.
