Reading Rough Sleepers Initiative

Reading Borough Council had a requirement for 40 accommodation units providing emergency shelter for homeless people in the Reading area. The site would also accommodate support staff on a 24hour basis in two newly constructed offices and a further unit providing laundry facilities for the residents on site.

Bespoke Specification:

  • 43 Anti Vandal single bay units providing 40 living
accommodation ‘studios’, two offices for support staff to the site and a laundry.
  • Studio’s offer a bedroom/ lounge, kitchen area and shower room.
  • The units are arranged around the site stacked one on one to
offer ground and first floor which are accessed by external staircases.
  • Each unit measured 7.6m x 3m which will easily allow them to
be moved to different locations over future years to meet client requirements.

“It is so meaningful that we are able to give 40 residents who have been rough sleeping around Reading the opportunity to have their own place with valuable on-site support... This is an innovative way to tackle homelessness with new residents already sharing positive comments about the opportunity this presents them by getting off the street.”
