Role Purpose
The SHEQ Co-ordinator will support the day-to-day management of Health & Safety across the business, working closely with the SHEQ Lead and operational teams to help maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
This is a development role, and we are looking for someone with the right attitude, communication skills and willingness to learn, as full support and on-the-job training will be provided.
The role is an opportunity to develop Health & Safety knowledge and qualifications as the individual progresses within the role.
Health & Safety will be the main focus of the position, but the successful candidate will also support the Quality Team when required.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
The SHEQ Co-ordinator will:
- Carry out regular Health & Safety inspections across operational and workplace areas.
- Identify and report potential hazards, unsafe conditions and unsafe working practices.
- Work with managers and supervisors to ensure Health & Safety actions are completed.
- Assist with the preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
- Help maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures, registers and records.
- Assist with accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
- Maintain accident, incident and near-miss records and track resulting actions.
- Help coordinate and deliver Health & Safety inductions, toolbox talks and awareness activities.
- Support the management of COSHH assessments and records.
- Assist with workplace risk assessments covering areas such as manual handling, work equipment and working at height.
- Help monitor PPE requirements and safe working practices.
- Assist with contractor and subcontractor Health & Safety requirements.
- Support fire safety and emergency arrangements, including inspections and drills.
- Help maintain training records and monitor Health & Safety training requirements.
- Assist with internal and external Health & Safety audits.
- Help prepare Health & Safety statistics, KPIs and reports.
- Develop an understanding of relevant Health & Safety legislation and HSE guidance.
- Build positive relationships with employees and encourage engagement with Health & Safety across the business.
- Develop the confidence and knowledge to provide practical Health & Safety support to employees and managers.
Quality Support
Health & Safety will remain the primary focus of the position; however, the role will also provide support to the Quality function when required. This may include:
- Assisting with quality inspections and audits.
- Helping maintain Quality Management System documentation and records.
- Recording quality issues and non-conformances.
- Tracking corrective actions.
- Assisting with root cause investigations.
- Supporting continuous improvement activities.
- Assisting with preparation for internal and external quality audits.
- Providing general support to the Quality function as required.
What We’re Looking For
Previous Health & Safety experience is not essential. We are looking for someone who can develop into the role and build their Health & Safety knowledge through training and practical experience.
The successful candidate should have:
- A genuine interest in developing a career within Health & Safety.
- A willingness to learn and undertake relevant training and qualifications.
- Good communication and people skills.
- The confidence to speak to employees, supervisors and managers.
- A practical and sensible approach to problem solving.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to follow tasks and actions through to completion.
- Good written communication and record-keeping skills.
- Basic competence with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to get involved across different areas of the business.
- The confidence to spend time within operational areas and engage with employees on the shop floor and on site.
Desirable – But Not Essential
The following would be advantageous but are not required, as training can be provided:
- Previous exposure to Health & Safety within a workplace environment.
- Experience within construction, manufacturing, modular buildings or a similar industry.
- IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely or similar training.
- Awareness of risk assessments and COSHH.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 or ISO 9001.
- Previous experience assisting with audits or compliance activities.
Training & Development
The company will support the successful candidate in developing the knowledge and competence required for the role.
This may include:
- On-the-job Health & Safety training and mentoring.
- IOSH training.
- Development towards a NEBOSH qualification as appropriate.
- Accident and incident investigation training.
- Risk assessment and COSHH training.
- Internal auditor training.
- Familiarisation with ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 management systems.
- Ongoing development as the individual’s responsibilities and experience increase.
The intention is for the successful candidate to develop within the SHEQ function and take on greater Health & Safety responsibility as their knowledge, experience and competence grow.

Health & Safety will be the primary focus of this role, with Quality support forming a secondary part of the position when required.
This role is intended to provide a development pathway for an individual who demonstrates the right attitude and potential. Previous extensive SHEQ experience or formal Health & Safety qualifications are therefore not a requirement.
