Integra hires Simon McGeachy as SHEQ Manager to drive sustainable growth.
Integra Buildings has appointed Simon McGeachy as its new Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Manager.
Simon grew up in Keyingham, just six miles from Integra’s site in Paull, and studied at Hull Trinity House before joining the Royal Navy.
After suffering a serious spinal injury in 2001, Simon was medically discharged from the Navy, and initially sought a career in medical law before deciding to focus on environmental law.
He eventually advanced in a career around environmental sustainability and most recently worked as Group Environment Manager at international testing and inspection company SOCOTEC UK.
Having worked on a series of projects focused on the environment & sustainability, including the HS2 high-speed rail line and projects with the Environment Agency, Simon joined Integra on a consultancy basis at the start of 2022, working on the company’s ISO accreditations.
Simon has now been appointed on a permanent basis as Integra’s SHEQ Manager.
His remit includes helping Integra secure three core ISO accreditations in Health & Safety, Environment and Quality, as well as reduce carbon emissions across all its operations.
Simon said: “I’m delighted to have joined Integra on a permanent basis, during what is an exciting period of growth and expansion for the company.
“As companies grow and evolve, there are new regulations and standards which must be met. A significant part of my remit will be ensuring Integra remains ahead of the curve for any new legislation which comes into force."
“Every business, large and small, must also overcome challenges to reduce their carbon emissions and transition to carbon neutrality. Integra is on its own ambitious journey and I’m excited to play an important role in that work.”
Since joining Integra, Simon has helped implement a new company portal which has brought a range of benefits to the company.
Integra’s team can use the platform to complete learning and development courses, including mandatory training in areas including Health & Safety and Mental Health Awareness.
They can also report any maintenance work which needs carrying out on site.
Integra is currently in the process of applying for three core ISO accreditations – ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management).
Simon will also be working to improve Integra’s Corporate Social Responsibilities, in line with the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
“Every business, large and small, must overcome challenges to reduce their carbon emissions and transition to carbon neutrality. Integra is on its own ambitious journey and I’m excited to play an important role in that work.
Integra will focus on community issues such as employment opportunities, quality education, good health and wellbeing and environmental objectives to reduce the company’s environmental impact.
Gary Parker, Managing Director at Integra Buildings, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Simon to Integra on a permanent basis. Simon was an asset to the business in his previous role as a consultant, and we’re thrilled to now appoint him as our SHEQ Manager.
“Simon will work closely with our SHEQ Director Paul Tansey to map out our transition to become a net zero company. We’ve made strong progress so far, understanding the carbon footprint of different elements of the business, and we’re committed to driving positive environmental change.
“Simon will also help the business secure important ISO accreditations, and ensure Integra remains compliant and forward-thinking across all of its operations.”
