Integra hits the road to deliver National Highways contract

“From the outset, it was clear National Highways could see the advantages and efficiencies modular construction could bring to the project." - Chris Turner, Managing Director, Integra Buildings.

Integra Buildings has commenced work at a series of UK sites after being awarded a significant contract with National Highways.

National Highways selected Integra to deliver office accommodation facilities for its teams at three locations across the country.

Work is now underway at each of the sites, in Lancashire, Merseyside and Devon, with Integra’s teams delivering a full turnkey package which includes groundworks, foundations, installation and fit-out.

The contract was awarded through the Crown Commercial Service Framework, which supports and facilitates UK public sector procurement.

National Highways identified a common design for a single-storey office accommodation building, which is now being rolled out at the three locations.

Chris Turner, Managing Director at Integra Buildings, said: “We’re delighted to be working with a high-profile client to deliver quality facilities for National Highways teams to enjoy.

“From the outset, it was clear National Highways could see the advantages and efficiencies modular construction could bring to the project. As a modular construction company with more than 25 years of experience in the sector, we share that belief that modular has a leading role to play in the future of UK construction.

“We’re now committed to delivering and handing over three buildings of exceptional quality and consistency, in line with our proven track record in the modular industry.”

Modular was selected by National Highways as the preferred method of construction due to the efficiencies it offers in both design and cost effectiveness.

Identical buildings are being installed at each of the three sites, ensuring consistency and quality across the whole project.

The project also showcases the sustainable principles of modular construction, as Integra continues to support a circular economy in UK construction.

As part of the contract, Integra is removing an existing building at the Lancashire site.

That building will be taken back to Integra’s site in Paull, East Yorkshire, before being refurbished and re-used in a new location.

A major benefit of modular construction is the ability to quickly and easily relocate buildings in the future, should the need arise. It gives companies flexibility and a cost efficiency that cannot be replicated through traditional construction methods.

The contract with National Highways is the latest significant contract to be awarded to Integra through the Crown Commercial Service Framework.

Integra has delivered nationwide projects for the Environment Agency through the framework, utilising a similar approach of designing and manufacturing a building, to be rolled out at sites across the country.

In a separate ongoing project, Integra won a contract with the UK Army Cadets to supply a number of buildings. Works have started on three of the sites in Lancashire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk with more to follow in the New Year.

The buildings will be used by a number of Ministry of Defence divisions, increasing efficiency and ensuring fewer buildings are left underutilised.

The Crown Commercial Service Framework remains one of Integra’s most prominent sources of work. Being part of the Government’s £10bn framework enables Integra to tender for major contracts across a range of public sectors.

National Highways is the latest major client to appoint Integra, alongside the likes of Network Rail, Transport for London and the Ministry of Defence.

Integra also recently delivered a multi-million-pound development for one of the world’s best known sports organisations, and has since been commissioned to undertake a subsequent project with the same client.
